Elastomeric PrimerSMP-150PRO D UCT D ESCRIPTION SMP-150 is designed for extreme weather and is water repellent. SMP-150 is a high build, elastomeric coating designed for use on a variety of substrates such as cement, brick, concrete, cinder and split faced block as well as wood. It will provide many years of maintenance free protection. SMP-150 is also designed to cover hairline cracks and is self-priming on most surfaces. Easy to maintain, its low semi-gloss sheen provides for ease of cleaning and many years of maintenance free protection.
APPLICATION & EQUIPMENT Apply by brush, lint free roller applicator of suitable nap length (i.e.: 20mm + nap, or split foam pile), conventional or airless sprayer. Note: If using an airless sprayer, ensure that the tip being used has an orifice of at least 0.030" to ensure the maximum mil thickness is applied. If necessary, dilute up to 10% with distilled or clean water and stir thoroughly. D o not apply at temperatures below 10C (approximately 50F)
MIXING This is a single component product. To facilitate mixing and application, store this product in a warm place (60F minimum). Stir thoroughly before use. Reduction is not necessarily required but distilled or clean water may be added to ensure proper spraying when using a conventional or airless spray system.
POT LIFE This is a single component product and should remain sealed at all times when not in use.
CURING At 70F, 50% relative humidity To Touch: 1 hour To D ry: 6-8 hours depending on conditions To Topcoat: 8 hours
CHARACTERISTICS Excellent resistance to extreme climatic conditions Resistant to high humidity, mildew, fungus Resistant to weathering (cracking, peeling, blistering) Resistant to common cleaners, scuffing or abrasion
COLORS & FINISHES White or tinted, semi-gloss sheen.
SURFACE PREPARATION Good surface preparation is essential to a satisfactory coating system. Surfaces to be coated should be clean and dry. Remove all oil, grease, mildew or other contamination by solvent or detergent cleaning or other effective means. New or Unfinished Surfaces - Ferrous Metal: For best performance, application to abrasive blasted surface is recommend. Commercial blasting SSPC-SP6 (Sa 2) is recommended as the minimum. For immersion service, Near White Blast cleaning SSPC-SP10(Sa 2 1/2) or is considered minimum. Proper blast media and blasting equipment shall be used to produce an average depth profile of 2.5 mils minimum. D o not reuse abrasive blast media. Remove blasting dust and grit from surfaces before painting. Blasted surfaces should be coated within 8 hours after blasting or before rusting or other contamination of the surface occurs. If blasting is not feasible, remove rust by Hand or Power Tool Cleaning. (SSPC-SP2 or SP3) For rusty surfaces remaining after cleaning, use SEI's CPT-100. CONCRETE: Must be clean, dry, properly cured and free from all surface contaminants. Brush off Blast (SSPC-SP7) to provide an etched surface and to remove contaminants and laitance. Remove dust before coating.
PREVIOUSLY FINISHE D SURFACES: Repair all damaged areas. Remove gloss from previous paint by sanding or Brush Blasting (SSPC-SP7). Remove rust, corrosion products, heavy chalk and loose or peeling paint by Hand or Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP2 or SP3). Spot prime and bare areas as in new work above. If doubt exists concerning compatibility of this coating with previous system, apply coating to a representative area (25 ft2 minimum) and allow to cure and age several weeks. Then inspect for adhesion failure, wrinkling, lifting, blistering or any other sign of incompatibility. If there are no signs, then work can proceed.
COVERAGE Solids content (+/- 2%): 45% by volume Number of Coats: 2 coats 1st coat 4-6 mils (100-150 microns) D FT 2nd coat 8-10 mils (200-250 microns) D FT Coverage (theoretical): 180 ft2 per gallon @ 4 mils / 200 microns D FT 2.25 m2 per liter @ 4 mils / 200 microns D FT
STORAGE & HAN D LING Hazardous Goods: Water Based Shipping Information: 5.6 kg/12.4 lbs. per gallon unit including container Shelf Life: One year from date of manufacture when stored at 20C (70F) SMP-150 must be stored and handled in compliance with all current and local regulations applying to paint storage. Keep in cool, dry protected storage, well ventilated, between 50C-35C / 40F-95F and out of direct sunlight, moisture or rain. Maintain unmixed material in sealed containers at all times. SMP-150 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months from date of manufacture if stored as indicated above, unopened in sealed containers. Ensure both components are consistent in appearance and viscosity after stirring.
